Development of Leopard 2 tank began in 1960s, when United States and Germany were intensively working on their project of new tank under label MBT/KPz-70. At that time, MBT-70 had the highest priority in both countries, so much so that one article forbade both countries from developing any other tanks in parallel with it. MBT/KPz-70 … Continue reading Development of Leopard 2 Tank

Operation Rosselsprung – German Invasion of Drvar 1944
Historiography of the Second World War in Yugoslavia is unfortunately still full of Communist propaganda, not just in Croatia but in the West as well. But some facts are now more available. Today it is known that after the occupation of Yugoslavia in April 1941., Stalin forbade Tito from starting a partisan rebellion in order … Continue reading Operation Rosselsprung – German Invasion of Drvar 1944
Did the Soviet Union Plan to Invade in 1941
In 1990s, following the fall of the Iron Curtain, Western audiences were introduced to work of Vladimir Rezun, a.k.a. Viktor Suvorov. He claimed that Stalin had planned for an offensive war in 1941., only to be pre-empted by Hitler's Operation Barbarossa. Ideologically, this makes sense. Communism was just as aggressive ideology as Nazism, and Soviet … Continue reading Did the Soviet Union Plan to Invade in 1941

Liberation of Zagreb by the Partisans
Ever since 1945., Croatian schoolchildren spent their education learning about the “National Liberation War” (or more accurately, “People's Liberation War”) and about the “liberation” of Zagreb on 8th May 1945. So-called “antifascists”, both old and not so old, celebrate this event with gusto. Issue is, “liberation” of a city by socialists and by an occupying … Continue reading Liberation of Zagreb by the Partisans

Basic Lessons of War in Ukraine So Far
War in Ukraine has been looked at, analyzed and combed. Not surprisingly, as it represents one of the very few conflicts between two modern forces. Wars in Yugoslavia happened thirty years ago, and were fought under conditions of an arms embargo. Invasions of Iraq were also a relatively long time ago, and fought against an … Continue reading Basic Lessons of War in Ukraine So Far

This is the second in a series of five articles on the battleships built under the provision of the Washington and London Naval Treaty limitations in the 1930s. I am not including the ships which were completed in the immediate aftermath of the Washington Treaty limitations. This series looks at the modern battleships that the World War II combatants would produce in the 1930s which saw service in the war. Part one covered the Italian Vittorio Veneto class entitled The Pride of the Regina Marina: The Vittorio Veneto Class Battleships. This article covers the French Dunkerque class and Richelieu class Battleships. Part Three will deal with the British King George V Class and Part Four the American North Carolina and South Dakota Classes. I have already published the final part which covers the German…
